The Youth Development Commission (YDC) is now recruiting a second round of young adult leaders, ages 20+, who are interested in making a difference in the lives of Detroit’s youth. Interested parties with at least two years (48 credit hours) of college are invited to apply to become AmeriCorps Members and Academic All-Stars Leaders.
Academic All-Stars launched Fall 2015 at four High Schools in Detroit that demonstrated need based on academic performance or financial needs of enrolled students. This program has placed AmeriCorps Members in schools to oversee mentoring and college/career readiness programs that engage high school juniors as Peer Mentors for incoming Freshman and adult volunteers as Career Mentors. The program continues to expand with an additional 19 AmeriCorps members Fall 2016.
Accepted AmeriCorps Members will earn an educational award, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and child care, if needed. Applications may be returned to our office at 1641 Porter St. Detroit, MI 48216 and online at jobs@ydcdetroit.org.
