Robert D. Counts has been with the organization since 2012 and the President of Youth Development Commission since 2016. Robert Counts has over 21 years nonprofit leadership experience in areas of youth and family development, school engagement, community partnerships, and community education. Over the years, Robert has successfully developed and implemented in-school and after-school intervention programs and worked in partnership with a number of youth serving organizations with the consistent goal of increasing opportunity, building capacity and fostering growth.
He has served in numerous capacities while employed at Youth Development Commission as Youth Advocate, Job/Worksite Developer, Youth Services Manager and Program Director. Previous experience include Regional Director of 1 to 1 Tutor Michigan, Director of Education of Vanguard Community Development Corporation, Director of Training of Hunger Action Coalition of Michigan, Team Leader of Ford Motor Company and currently President of the Youth Development Commission. Surprisingly, Robert is back in the same space where he “cut his teeth” in nonprofit youth development in 1994 at the Grand Rapids Urban League as a Youth Employment Specialist.
Mr. Counts completed his Masters in Educational Leadership at University of Michigan (2001). He has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management with a Math Minor.
